To make great wine it takes love, Not just in the winery, but especially in the vineyard. So, great wine requires love of farming.

I am a fourth generation farmer whose Great Grandfather started it all in Kansas in the 1800's.  My Grandfather stayed with it until 1940 when after three years of not being able to raise a single stock of corn left the depression and dust bowl days behind him and brought his family to the Bitterroot Valley.  Once here he started a small dairy of 20 cows.  Only being able to sell the cream, he fed the milk to the hogs.  The Bitterroot Valley having always been a difficult place to make a living required old fashioned farm subsidy.  This meant he would log on the side to help the farm.  The logging took him and my father to Oregon's south coast and later on to Northern California in an effort to feed his family.

My father had logged the property adjacent to what is now the family vineyard.  When his love of farming once again called to him, he purchased land that had been an unsuccessful pure bred Angus cattle operation that attempted to diversify with grapes.  I came into farming the vineyard in 1988.  Each year planting more hay ground to vineyard until all plantable ground, approximately 106 of 159 acres, was in production.

My love for family, farming, wine, and the Bitterroot Valley is how Trapper Peak Winery was born.  My home being in the Bitterroot Valley, while family vineyard being on Mount St. Helena, required many months away from my wife and kids.  So, my wife and I decided to start Trapper Peak Winery in 2002 to help balance and justify our days apart.

My grandfather was a passionate man who loved hard work, but always loved God and family first and foremost.  My father is also passionate about God, family, farming, and wine.  You see, my love for God, family, farming, wine, and the Bitterroot Valley are blessings passed down through my family.

My wife and I invite you to taste the Passion!
